Director General - Prof. Luca Pani

Luca Pani, Medical Doctor, specialized in Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Molecular Biology Expert is currently Director General of the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA).
Prof. Pani's professional trajectory has touched several areas of expertise, along with his commitment to teaching and clinical activity, such as: national and international regulatory activities for the European Union; preparation, evaluation and coordination of Research Projects; Strategic Planning and partnerships with national and international Research Groups; participation in international bodies and Advisory Committees.
Italian Alternate Permanent Member of the Committee for Human Medicine Products (CHMP); Elected Member of the Working Party on Central Nervous System (WP-CNS) and of the Scientific Advice Working Party (SA-WP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in London (UK) (2010 – present).
Permanent Member of the Committee for Clinical Neurosciences of the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA); Head of Research of the National Research Council’s Institute of Translational Pharmacology (CNR-ITP), located in Pula-Cagliari (2009 – 2011).
Founder and Permanent Member of the Scientific Board of Fase 1, the first Government based (Regione Autonoma della Sardegna) Contract Research Organization dedicated to Fase 1 studies in Traslational Pharmacology (2008 – 2011).
Head Section of the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (Pula-Cagliari) and later of the Institute of Translational Pharmacology (2006 – 2010).
President and Chief Executive Officer of Neuroscienze PharmaNess Scarl., a research and development spin-off Company from the University of Cagliari and the National Research Council, that designs, synthesizes and formulates pharmaceutical products and tests them in pre-clinical pharmacology (2002 – 2010).
Associate Professor at the Georgetown Institute for the Neurosciences and Department of Pharmacology, Georgetown University School of Medicine. Washington, D.C. (1993 – 1994).
Research Associate, Department of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois, Chicago (1990 – 1992).
Prof. Pani is currently Voluntary Professor at the University of Miami, Florida.
Director of Research of the Italian National Research Council (2002-present).
Prof. Pani is the author of over one hundred scientific publications (average impact factor 4,5) and the author and editor of several volumes.
Since 1994 he has attended more than 800 conferences, seminars and national and international Roundtables as a speaker.
Prof. Pani was born in Cagliari, on October 26, 1960. He’s married and has two children.
