Independent Medicines Information Centre

The independent medicines information centre aims at:

  • representing a valid support for health professionals (such as doctors and pharmacists) for the evaluation of data published in literature and for the correct transfer into clinical practice;
  • divulging the criteria that are at the basis of different modalities of prescription (for example: Note AIFA, PFN, etc..);
  • underlining that dispositions on health matter (such as evaluations of Technical Scientific Committees on the effectiveness and safety of drugs) are based on the criteria of the evidence based medicine;
  • letting citizens/patients know information on problems related to use safety (such as emergencies information: cerivastatin, sibutramin, Coxibs…)

How it works

The service is active through the free number 800571661 or it can be reached by post, fax and email.

  • WHO ANSWERS

    Qualified professionals (pharmacists) experienced in the evaluation of data coming from scientific research answers questions concerning effectiveness, safety, interactions, reimbursement, rules, etc.

  • WHO IT IS ADDRESSED TO

    Service users are mainly citizens/patients and health professionals (such as general practitioners, specialists, pharmacists).

  • HOW IT ANSWERS

    The Service answers the questions by telephone, mail or email.
    Every answer is codified and filed in a software.
    The software allows to file and codify questions by: drug, ATC code, type of question, etc.
    International databases, specific web sites, international scientific reviews and specialised books are used as sources of information to drawn up answers.
    Answers are always equipped with bibliographic references.
